How to Wear Red Lipstick on Your Wedding Day
When we say “bridal makeup,” most people probably envision a blushing bride with lush lashes, pink cheeks and a soft lip. But who says you have to be most people? If you’ve been dreaming about wearing perfectly red lips on your wedding day, there is absolutely no reason at all you shouldn’t have them. In fact, we’re pretty certain they will be a lovely addition to your wedding day look. However, there are ways a red lip can be disastrous. So don’t fall victim! Follow these simple guidelines and you’ll look better than ever as you walk down the aisle.
Own It
First and foremost, you must, must, must wear your red lipstick with confidence. A bright lip on your wedding day is a bold move, and it can also be a great one. But you HAVE to own it. Whether you go glossy or matte, make sure you wear that pout with pride.
Make Sure It Works for Your Skin Tone
You are probably well aware by now that what works for one may not work for another, especially when it comes to makeup (and lipstick). There are multiple hues and shades you can go with when going the red route, so make sure you choose the lipstick that complements your complexion. Need a little help? Read this.
Make Sure It Stays Put
The last thing you want to deal with on your wedding day is bleeding lipstick. You’ll be snapped in countless photos that will be seen for years to come, so it is of utmost importance that your lips (and smile) be on point. To avoid fading and bleeding, make sure you line your lips with an invisible lip liner or a colored one that matched your lipstick. You should also make sure your lips are moisturized and primed so they can hold the color and keep it from going out of bounds.

Keep Everything Else Simple
The key to pulling off the red lip look on your wedding day is keeping the rest of your face as pristine and simple as possible. Now, don’t get us wrong — you still gotta wear some makeup. Just make sure to keep it looking natural and subtle. Try a little natural shadow, soft, peach blush, pretty dewy skin and maybe a little (emphasis on the little) light contouring to accentuate your facial features. If you go too heavy on the shadow, eyeliner and/or blush, you might start to wander into “clown” territory and you don’t want that on your big day! You want your guest and groom to see you, not your makeup.

Keep It on Your Lips
A risk we all take when rocking the bright lipstick is getting it on everything — drinking glasses, clothing, your hubby’s lips, your teeth, etc. Chances are you’ll be in contact with a lot of these things through the course of your wedding day, and the last thing you want is to be checking the mirror every five minutes and/or reapplying just as often. Follow these rules for making lipstick stay put and you’ll be able to enjoy every minute of your big day, without worrying about your pout (or your husband’s!).
