When Beauty and Fashion Collide: 4 Collaborations We’ll Never Get Enough Of
Our eyes may light up at a good makeup collaboration in general, but a lightbulb goes off in our head when said makeup brands collab with a great fashion house. Not only is it truly inspiring to see the designers’ worlds come to life in makeup palette form, suddenly our makeup becomes part of a bigger fashion picture in accordance with our whole look. Ahead, find some of our favorite fashion and beauty collabs from the past and present.
Known for her ethereal bridal designs, Reem Acra recently partnered with Essie to create a Gel Couture Wedding Collection of six shades for Spring 2018. Each color in the collection represents a different aspect of Acra’s dreamy wedding perspective. Picture Perfect is a creamy ivory with gold reflect that represents commitment. Getting Intricate is a crisp eggshell blue, a nod to ‘something blue!’ You’re Golden is a classic Acra gold shade. Handmade of Honor is a neutral metallic rose. Moments To Mrs symbolizes happiness in mauvey-pink form. And Forever Family represents the bond of family in a mulberry tone.
Oldie But Goodie…. Shu Uemura x Kye
Clever fashion collaborations didn’t only emerge in 2018, and one of our favorites from a few years back is the Shu Uemura x Kye collection of 2016. This limited edition body, makeup and drawing pencil anthology drew inspiration from Kye’s bright and poppy illustrated world, complete with purple, pink and orange pops on every inch of the packaging. Our favorites from this collab definitely had to be the bubblegum pink cushion blush and the sheer color balms — both of which brought Kye’s technicolor world to our cheeks and lips.
Another recent favorite (and still available!) collection of the bunch definitely has to be the L’Oréal Paris collab with Olivier Rousteing, mastermind behind all things Balmain. This 12 lipstick collection includes some staple nudes and browns, but obviously could not live without some Balmain inspired blue, green and purples. These lipsticks not only made a much-needed appearance in our local drugstore, they debuted on the Spring 2017 runway.
Oldie But Goodie…. Lancôme x Sonia Rykiel
This colorful throwback collection will forever live on in our hearts. Lancôme teamed up with designer Sonia Rykiel in Fall 2016 for a multi-product collaboration that included nail polish, eyeshadow palettes, liner and cushion compacts galore. The packaging included Rykiel’s iconic logo and stripes, as well as cute Parisian illustrations on a glossy white finish. As for what was inside all of the products, Lancôme paid homage to what Rykiel’s muses usually sported on the runway: a smokey eye with bold head-turning lips.
