This 4-Step Glitter Lip Will Be Your New Favorite Holiday Makeup Look
Choosing a holiday makeup look isn’t easy anymore. You’ve surely exhausted every coppery option, and a cat-eye is just so...Tuesday. When you want something that’s special and festive and modern, you need to think outside the traditional holiday box.
That’s why we’re playing with unexpected color combinations for holiday makeup inspo this year. And NYC based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes created this pretty pink eye makeup and glittering ruby lip look just for us — we think it checks all the boxes.
Here’s how to replicate this holiday makeup look for your next party.
Start With Foundation and a Highlighting Base
After prepping and priming your face, apply Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation as a lightweight base for your makeup look. Next, go in and highlight your brow and cheekbones with the Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter to start building the makeup’s glow.
Add Some Pink Flames to Your Lids
For Hughes, a mod take on a fiery makeup look starts with a rosy eye. Using the L’Oréal La Lip Palette in Pink, apply a mix of the bubblegum pink shades to the lids as a base for pink shadow. Next, pat NYX Professional Makeup Powder Blush In Pinky over top to set the pink color. Follow up with a few coats of L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise in Black to thicken up your lashes.
Swipe On a Power Red
To give the look an unconventional punch, apply Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Rapid as the base for a glitter lip. Hughes has a pro tip to share for this one: Apply liquid lipstick with a brush, and work from the inside out. “With typical liquid lipstick applicators, you can’t really control the product that much,” says Hughes. “And with any liquid lipstick, I always like to work from the middle of the mouth and work my way to the edges.”
Sprinkle On That Fiery Glitz
Finally, the blazing part you’ve been waiting for: the (optional) glitter lip. Start by applying a drop of theNYX Professional Makeup Glitter Primer to the back of your hand with a brush, and slowly mix in a small amount of the NYX Professional Makeup Ruby Glitter. Brush the mixture on top of the lipstick to add a fiery ruby sparkle. “You could also brush the primer onto the lips with a lip brush, and press the glitter overtop,” Hughes suggests. Either way, you’re sure to be lit this holiday season.
How to Get The Perfect Red and Pink Holiday Makeup Look
1. Apply a matte foundation and a soft rose highlighter.
2. Prime your lids with a rosey pink lip color or cream shadow
3. Set your lid color with a pink blush.
4. Apply a red liquid matte lip color.
5. Pack on ruby red glitter to complete your pout.
