Meghan Markle: An Exclusive Interview
After a full day of press in NYC, Meghan Markle still looked flawless on the red carpet at the ‘Self Rocks The Summer’ party at the Dream Downtown. The laid back Cali-born and raised actress tells MDC about her role as a tough New Yorker on “Suits” and her personal beauty style.
I see that you are rocking a great smoky eye right now. Is this a go-to for events?
For events, yes, I love a strong eye and a really light lip. I love contoured and highlighted cheekbones too.
You mentioned that you like a light lip—do you ever mix it up with a bold color?
I always do a nude lip. If you ever see me on the carpet with a dark lip, I was strong-armed into doing it! I love the way it looks on other people—but it makes me nervous so I don’t take that risk as often. I prefer a strong eye.
Also loving these beachy waves you are rocking—what are your favorite hairstyles?
Thank you! I love hair in a really high top knot, a little messy, but I think men really love hair down. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t try to change things up and do something different–either tied up or down with waves or stick straight. I just like to have fun with it.
What are the main differences between your personal style versus what we see from Rachel on “Suits”?
Well, I’m a California girl born and raised, so in LA I love the sunshine and flip-flops. I‘m much more relaxed than you ever see Rachel. She’s a New Yorker and she comes from a lot of money and has a lot of polish—which is fantastic and I love being able to play her and of course borrow from her closet from time to time. My personal style is much more chill and easy.
We love simple beauty regimens at Makeup.com. What is your day-to-day beauty routine when you are not on the set of Suits?
Day-to-day, I do a 5-minute face: YSL Touche Éclat concealer, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, Maybelline Rocket mascara, a little bit of NARS Orgasm blush, and Fresh Sugar lip treatment.
Last but not least, what are your must-have products?
Every day I use a plain Clarins Moisturizer and Serum. I’m also obsessed with the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate–I’ve been going to her in LA for years. There’s a great new company called Beauty Counter—I love their face oil because it’s very nourishing with a nice aromatherapy. Honestly, we wear so much makeup at work at the end of the day you just want to clean palette. I use a Clarisonic with a basic Tea Tree oil cleanser to really get in there and clean my skin.
