The Easy, 3-Step Makeup Look That’s Perfect for Beginners
While we’re all for the effortless no-makeup makeup look, there’s a new natural look capturing our attention. Cue statement brows and bold lips. Before you ask, “wait, how is this natural?,” give us a second to explain. In the time it takes for you to complete an everyday look — which takes what, a dozen products? — you could be done with this one! The emphasis here is on your eyebrows and perfectly-imperfect lipstick — so you can rock bare skin or a little concealer and take on your day.
Already obsessed? Here’s how to get the look:
STEP 1: Apply a lightweight tinted moisturizer or BB cream to skin. For a natural glow, add cream highlighter to the high points of your face (think the bridge of your nose, cheekbones and Cupid’s bow). Or, better yet, go completely nude! The point of this look is to keep your skin and eye makeup toned down, while only accentuating your lips and brows.
STEP 2: Apply an orangey-red lipstick to your lips (we recommend NYX Professional Makeup Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick). A precise application is not recommended here — in fact, we advise against it. After application, caress the contour around the lips to create a blurred, relaxed look.
If you can’t resist a more perfect pout, use a longwear lipstick for better staying power, and set it with translucent powder for a precise, matte look.
STEP 3: Fill your eyebrows in with both a pencil and tinted brow gel that’s slightly darker than your natural brow color. If you have sparse brows, try applying brow wax (or soap!) to a spoolie and brushing upward to create fluffy, thick brows. Next, fill in the sparse areas using a precise brow pencil (like L’Oréal Paris Definer Mechanical Pencil) to create hair-like strokes and set with a clear brow gel.
