Old Hollywood glam has been done time and time again — that’s why it’s called a classic, after all. Two of our favorite trends to come out of this Golden Age of Film are without a doubt a thick cat eye and vibrant red lip, the former made famous by Audrey Hepburn and the latter by Marilyn Monroe. Ahead, we tapped NYC-based makeup artist Anne Kohlhagen to recreate these looks with a modern edge. Check out what she came up with. The Audrey Cat EyeThe classic black cat eye starts with a soft kohl pencil to get the shape, says Kohlhagen — and the L’Oréal Pro Last Liner in Black is a perfect product for this. “First, line your cat eye with a pencil — this way, it’s easier to clean up with a cotton swab if you make any mistakes,” she says. Next, after the shape of your line is set, go over it with a waterproof pen, like the NYX Professional Makeup Matte Liquid Liner in Black or cream liner to set it. “I tend to do the line on the lid first, then the outer corner and the inner corner, but there’s no right or wrong place to start or finish,” she adds. Pair the look with a bare face and a little mascara to keep it fresh, crisp and modern. The Marilyn LipAs for a signature red lip, Kohlhagen created a glitter finish to bump up the personality and give it a 21st-century refresh. “You want to start with a creamy lipstick so that the glitter will hold,” she says. The L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Color in the shade Ruby Flame will get the job done easily because of its creamy finish. “Then, pick up the NYX Professional Makeup Glitter in Red with a flat brush and place it on top of the lips, pressing it in,” Kohlhagen adds. If you want to give it even more dimension, use a few different shades of glitter from the same color family to really make the look shine bright.Read More:The Hollowed-Out Cat-Eye Liner to TryThe Best Cream Glitter Lip ProductsHow to Remove Dark Lipstick
