Sulfates are cleansing agents commonly used in shampoos to make them lather or foam and provide a thorough, oil-cleansing wash. But some hair types – especially curly hair, damaged hair or color-treated hair – may want to opt out of using shampoo with sulfates (or any other hair-care product with sulfates), as some could make hair color fade faster and contribute toward dryness or breakage.. What’s more, hairstylist Sharon Spellman previously told Makeup.com that she has“personally recommended sulfate-free products for people with skin or scalp troubles, specifically for those with rosacea, eczema or contact dermatitis.”
