While these tattoos seem simple enough to apply, we spoke to Neu Neu, founder and creative director of Neu Baby — a popular choice for tattoo edges — for some pointers. These tattoos are fully waterproof and sweat-proof, but can simply be removed by rubbing the forehead with a wet sponge in a circular motion using an alcohol-based product such as astringent or makeup wipes. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube like this one to show you how to get the look, but Neu Neu shares her expert tips below.

How to Apply Tattoo Edges

“Apply close to your natural hairline with the tacky side down, but be careful not to apply over your actual hair or any makeup,” instructs Neu Neu. Don’t forget to remove the protective film cover before placement.

How to Remove Excess Adhesive

Some influencer videos show tattoo adhesive getting stuck on the hair, but Neu Neu has an easy solution. “Slowly wipe away any excess adhesive on the natural hairline with a damp sponge or cloth, wiping towards the hairline,” she says. “Don't worry if you get any excess in your hair — it easily wipes off, so that you can apply the design close to your hairline.”

How to Style Tattoo Edges

Neu Neu suggests using a black edge gel like Style Factor Edge Booster in Natural Black “to help fill in any gaps.” We also recommend having a firm-hold gel on hand like the L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Clean Gel that doesn’t leave any residue behind. Use a long-lasting hairspray like L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray to sweep your natural strands back. This will make sure your fake baby hairs look “unreal” in the best way possible.
