This No-Heat Crimped Look Is Our Go-to Summer Hairstyle

How to Achieve a Crimped Style

To achieve a beachy crimped style it’s important to start with slightly damp hair. Though it may be tempting to braid your hair as soon as you get out of the shower, Potempa says to wait until your hair is almost fully air-dried so you won’t have to wait as long for the completed look.

Once your hair is almost dry, Potempa recommends applying one pump of the Beachwaver Braid Balm to prep, smooth and keep frizz at bay. Then, separate hair into two parts and braid each side. “When creating the braids, braid tighter at the root and looser toward the bottom,” she says. This will create the most natural effect. When you reach the ends of your hair, don’t secure the braids with an elastic. “Instead, use a soft scrunchie so there’s no kinks,” Potempa says.

For the best results, keep your hair braided overnight or until it is fully dry. Once you take out the braids, run your hands through your hair to add some volume and separate the waves. Potempa also suggests taking an extra step to fight off humidity by smoothing an anti-frizz cream like the Garnier Fructis Smooth Air Dry Anti-Frizz Cream through your hair. To style, wear it as is or add some fun hair accessories for extra personality.
