On the runway, model Herieth may be stone-faced and fierce, but when I caught up with her at a Maybelline party, she was all smiles. One of the first things she told me is that her favorite food combo is milkshakes and fries (Wendy’s to be exact) and she can’t resist a good Maybelline mascara. As a runway regular and face of many makeup campaigns, Herieth is a force to be reckoned with, and incredibly down to earth. Keep reading to find out how she got her start, the products she’s loving right now, and what beauty means to her. How did you get your start in modeling?I wanted to be an actress. I really liked Selena Gomez on “Wizards of Waverly Place”. I went to a modeling agency instead of an acting agency when I was 14 and just kept going with modeling. Walk me through your daily makeup routine. I’m a makeup junkie. I start with moisturizer, I do primer — I do the whole thing. Next, I do concealer and foundation. Day to day it’s usually mascara, lip gloss and concealer. I always need powder to blot so that’s my go to. Especially because I have castings and events. I don’t want it to be too much. Are there any products you’re loving right now?Oh my gosh — everything. I love the Maybelline Falsies and the Fit Me Foundation. You can really layer it up. My color is 360, which fits me perfectly. It’s also so cheap. Are you reaching for Dewy + Smooth or Matte + Poreless? All the way matte. If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?I would be a kindergarten teacher. I love kids. I’ve always said I want, like, 10 kids. If modeling doesn’t work out I might just do that. Are there any makeup trends you love right now?Everyone’s been doing the crooked eyebrow. I want to try it so bad, but no makeup artist will do it on me. I think it would be so cool to see a model do it instead of a YouTuber. Are there any makeup trends you don’t love right now? No. I feel like makeup is a self expression thing — that’s the vibe they’re on right now so cool. Any advice for anyone who wants to break into the modeling industry?I always say if you want to be a model, be a model. Contact agencies, take pictures, practice your posing. And don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything. When I started I didn’t know how to model, but I’m learning every day. It’s also a confidence thing. You have to say, I look good at every angle, and you’re going to take my picture, and this is me. Take me as I am, or watch me walk away. What’s the best makeup advice you’ve gotten so far?My favorite makeup artist, Tom Pecheux, always says to add little freckles with an eyebrow pencil or eyeliner — it makes me look angelic. What does makeup mean to you? That I get to play a different character and be a different person when I’m wearing that look. Every time I’m on set I get a different lip or eyeshadow color and I create this whole persona.
