How to Get the Ethereal Metallic Makeup Look This Holiday

This holiday season, we’re all about taking traditional holiday colors and using them to create makeup looks with a modern twist. Gold was an obvious choice, and we challenged NYC makeup artist extraordinaire Emily Amick to create a gold monochrome holiday makeup look anyone can pull off.

YSL Couture Liner In No. 8 Bronze

Urban Decay Interstellar Eyeshadow

YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in I’m The Clash

Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in Luminous Gold

Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat in 3rd Degree

Step 1: Amick starts off by applying the YSL Couture Liner in No.8 Bronze to her entire lid. “I like to use this liner all over my lid because it’s a little more dramatic and kicks up the metallic shine,” she says.

Step 2: Next, she grabs the Urban Decay Moondust Shadow in Interstellar and taps that over her liner to set the tone. She also blends this into the crease and into her inner corner to add a little extra sparkle.

Step 3: Amick then grabs a matte brown eyeshadow and runs that along her lower lash line to smoke out the look and give the eye a little more definition.

Step 4: She finishes off the eyes with the YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in I’m the Clash.

Step 5: Next, Amick dusts Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in Luminous gold onto her cheekbones, brow bones, down her nose and on her cupid’s bow.

Step 6: Finally, she adds Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat in 3rd Degree to the center of her lips. “You can use this alone or with your favorite lip color,” she adds.

“This is going to reflect a lot of light,” says Amick. “So you’re definitely going to be Instagram-ready!”
