Lancôme Teamed Up With Fashion Photographers Mert & Marcus on a Dramatic New Collection
February 28, 2020Even if you’re not familiar with the names Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, you’ve definitely seen their work. The photographers, who work as a team known as Mert & Marcus, have shot some of the most iconic celebrity portraits (think: Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner) and fashion spreads and campaigns in recent memory. Now, the duo are stepping out from behind the lens and applying their signature bold, hyperreal aesthetic to makeup with a limited-edition collaboration with Lancôme.
The Lancôme x Mert & Marcus After Dark Collection, now available, is not for the less-is-more kind of makeup wearer. The line features rich colors, eye-catching textures and innovative formulas — essentially all the makings of a smoldering nighttime look.
“We were never really interested in beauty in its original form. Somehow, what excited us over the past 26 years, was transforming and creating characters with light, makeup and stories, and this is what we tried to achieve with this collection,” the duo said of the collab.
A standout in the assortment is the After Dark Eyeshadow Palette that contains 10 jewel-tone and smoky shades in four different finishes. The shadows are designed to be layered to create vibrant, attention-grabbing looks.
The collection also contains two must-have makeup kits. The first, the Eyes Cold As Ice Kit, comes with everything you need to create a glittering, green smoky eye, including feathery, cat-eye false lashes and a shimmery eyeshadow topper. Complete the dramatic look with the Flaming Lips Kit, a two-piece set that consists of a dual-colored lipstick and a high-shine L'Absolu lip gloss (choose between red or violet shades). Apply the gloss over the lipstick for striking dimension.
Rounding out the Lancôme x Mert & Marcus After Dark Collection are matte-to-glitter eyeshadows in deep hues, pigmented lipsticks in various finishes and a dazzling, multi-tasking highlighter available in two shades.
