The Return of the Supermodel Statement Lip and How to Get the Look
December 27, 2021The ‘90s supermodel pout — featuring extremely defined lip lines, nude tones and an overall plump appearance — is back. To get a lip look worthy of the runways circa 1993, it requires layering products like concealer and face powder with your conventional lip products. Because I’m utterly obsessed with the ‘90s, I decided to try the look myself after discovering this Instagram tutorial from @anitakartistry. Keep reading for how I replicated the look.
How to Get a ‘90s Supermodel Lip
-
STEP 1:
To execute this, you’ll need concealer, translucent powder, lip liner and lip gloss. You’ll want your liner to be a brown shade that’s dark enough to cover up the natural outline of your lips. Your gloss of choice should be a sheer nude.

STEP 2:
To begin, I used the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer like a liquid lipstick to completely fill in my lips. The stick applicator makes this easy. Then I used a powder brush and lightly dusted my lips with the NYX Professional Makeup Can't Stop Won't Stop Mattifying Powder in Bright Translucent.

STEP 3:
Next, I took the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in 1993 and slightly over-lined my lips for a fuller look. You can create your desired lip shape by drawing vertical and diagonal lines down the center of your lips to create a contoured effect.

STEP 4:
Last but not least, I applied the NYX Professional Makeup This Is Milky Gloss in Cookies & Milk and smacked my lips together to blend all the layers. I love that the result could pair nicely with glam makeup, but can also give a little extra oomph to natural makeup. The versatility will make it a regular technique in my rotation.
