The Moody Burgundy Eye Makeup We Can’t Wait to Wear This Holiday Season
December 04, 2020If bright red lipstick and glitter feels a little too expected for your holiday Zoom party, it’s time to try a sophisticated burgundy eye makeup look. We’re talking about pairing a deep burgundy matte eyeshadow with matching violet-colored liner and mascara, and then adding a just-bitten red lip shade. Ahead, NYC-based makeup artist Jonet Williamson breaks down how to master the moody makeup look in just four steps.

STEP 1:
Apply Your Burgundy-Brown Shadow
Using the Urban Decay Stoned Vibes Palette, begin the look by packing Hexed, a burgundy-brown, on the outer half of the eyelid, extending it out into a wing shape and bringing it up into the crease to look like a half moon. On the inner half of the lid, apply Meditate, a metallic lighter brown-burgundy, and extend it into the inner corner. Diffuse the colors at the point where they meet so that they blend seamlessly. Add Meditate to the inner lower lash line and Hexed to the outer half of the lower lash line.
-
STEP 2:
Add Your Purple Liner
Line the upper lash line with a thick, pigmented and creamy purple pencil. We recommend the L’Oréal Paris Le Liner Signature Mechanical Eye Pencil in Violet Wool. This budge-proof formula adds a pop of dimension to the burgundy shadow underneath it.

STEP 3:
Coat Your Lashes With Purple Mascara
Instead of opting for black mascara, go with a purple like the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Deep Violet to really make this look come together. Apply one to two coats on the upper and lower lashes to complement the purple liner and frame the eyes. To add a little more dark contrast to the look, apply a black kohl eyeliner pencil to the lower waterline.

STEP 4:
Finish With Highlighter and a Just-Bitten Lip
Add a touch of luminous highlighter to the tops of your cheeks, down your nose and on the Cupid’s bow, and complete the moody makeup look with a just-bitten lip color. We love the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in Spiced Cider.
