Glassy Blush Is Trending — Here’s How to Get the Look
March 03, 2021
After a long, cold winter, we can’t wait for warm days, sun-kissed skin and a glowing complexion. But until we get to summer, we’re finding ways to recreate that glow. Enter the glassy blush trend, which is like glass skin but with a rosy twist. It involves flushed cheeks and a beaming glow and makes your skin look healthy and bright. After seeing the trend blow up on our social media feeds, we knew we had to learn how to recreate it for ourselves. Ahead, keep reading for an easy step-by-step tutorial on how to try the glassy blush trend with the help of celebrity makeup artist Billie Gene.
STEP 1: Prep the Skin
According to Gene, the glassy blush trend is all about the prep. “For this look, it is extremely important for the skin to be supple and hydrated,” he says. Prime the skin with a hydrating moisturizer or facial oil (or both) to give your complexion a dewy foundation. We recommend the Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate Face Oil because it’s formulated with nourishing oils that make the skin look radiant after application.STEP 2: Apply a Cream Blush
Next, it’s time to apply blush. It’s important to use a cream formula because it gives the skin a dewy look. Try the Maybelline New York Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush for it’s buildable formula and pigmented finish. To apply, Gene recommends tapping in the product with your fingers. “Pick up the cream blush with the tip of your middle and index fingers,” he says. “Gently rub both fingers together to warm up the product as this will provide a smoother application.”STEP 3: Make It Glassy
Finally, it’s time to make the skin look like glass. The best way to do this is by applying a clear translucent balm or oil on the planes of your cheeks for a beaming effect. “Always use cream or emollient products for a glassy effect — never use powder products no matter how shiny they may appear,” says Gene. The CTZN Cosmetics Globalm is great for this. To make the look last, Gene recommends applying a generous amount of the balm so it doesn’t fade throughout the day and set it with a radiance-boosting spray, like the Urban Decay All Nighter Ultra Glow Setting Spray.
