Magenta Makeup Tutorial
  • STEP 1:

    Start With Your Eyes

Because this look features bright, bold colors, Rodriguez recommends starting with the eyes. “If there’s any fallout it’s easier to clean up without having to worry about ruining any makeup underneath,” he explains. Prep your eyelids with an eyeshadow primer, like the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Then, using a medium-sized fluffy brush, blend a light, peachy-pink eyeshadow (like Gadget from the Urban Decay Naked Cyber Palette) into the crease of your eye. “You want to blend this out almost in a straight line, connecting the tail end of your eyebrow to the beginning of your brow,” Rodriguez says. “It’s okay if it’s a bit messy because you’re going to be adding more colors.”

  • STEP 2:

    Pack on the Color

Using a fresh medium-sized fluffy brush, gently pack a purple-magenta eyeshadow shade (try the ColourPop Pressed Pigment in Seeing Stars) into the outer corner of your eye. Blend in small circular motions to keep the color concentrated in the outer corner until you create an even gradient with the first eyeshadow. “Don’t forget that less is more,” says Rodriguez. “Start out with a little bit of color then add more as you need it. You can always add, but you can’t take away.”

  • STEP 3:

    Add Some Shimmer

With the same brush, place the Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow in Floored directly over the magenta eyeshadow for a pop of shimmer. Next, using a flat eyeshadow brush, dip into the Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow in Bad Seed and place it along the empty part of your eyelid — spanning from the inner corner to the middle, connecting it with the other shimmery shade. “Using a flat brush allows the shimmer to go over the shadows that are already in place without moving them around,” says Rodriguez.

  • STEP 4:

    Brighten Your Complexion

Once you finish laying the eyeshadow, apply face primer and your favorite foundation as you normally would. Then, to brighten up your face, place a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your foundation on the center of your forehead and below the inner and outer part of your eyes. Let the concealer sit while you dab a magenta liquid blush (our favorite is the Maybelline New York Cheek Heat in Berry Flame) along your cheekbones. Apply the blush with your fingers, then use a beauty sponge to blend in the concealer.

  • STEP 5:

    Sculpt and Bake

After everything is smoothly blended into your skin, use a powder bronzer to sculpt out your cheekbones, nose and forehead (if you so please). To accentuate the contour, dip a dry makeup sponge into translucent powder and place it below your cheeks and along your nose. Let it sit while you complete your brow routine. Once you finish filling in your brows, brush and flick the translucent powder off (the areas where the powder sat will look extra snatched).

  • STEP 6:

    Magenta-fy Your Face

Now you’re going to add a bit more color for a full magenta effect. Focusing on the eyes again, take a small fluffy brush and drag the purple-magenta shadow you used earlier along the outer part of your lower lash line. Do the same with the peachy-pink shade on the inner part of your lower lash line. Moving on to lips: line them with a neutral lip liner (this will help your lipstick last longer). Then fill in your pout with a bold magenta shade like the Valentino Beauty Rosso Valentino Lipstick in Rose Clash.

  • STEP 7:

    Finish and Serve Face

To round off the look, apply mascara and fake eyelashes. Then, to keep the look cohesive, highlight your cheekbones with a mix of the two Urban Decay shimmer shadows. Spritz on your favorite setting spray to keep your makeup in place all day. Then you’re ready to take on the world with this bold magenta look.
