The Essie Winter 2020 Nail Collection Is Here
November 13, 2020I’ll be honest, I don’t usually go for a bright manicure, let alone one that has a sparkling finish. I’m all about those neutral tones. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this nail polish. I went with the shade Bonbon nuit, which is a light pink. With just one coat, it offers a sheer coverage that’s really pretty. I also surprisingly loved the sparkles because they were subtle and appeared more like a soft shimmer than glitter. If you’re someone who loves a good sparkle, though, you can easily apply one more another layer for a standout manicure. —Genesis, Assistant Editor
Never will you ever catch me in dark polish. I wear stark white polish in the summer and dabble with pastel pinks in the fall. But when winter hits and black, navy and gray polishes are the norm, I find myself at a loss. That’s why this sparkly blue shade has been my go-to. The frosted polish is perfect for the holiday season and New Year’s Eve, too. I’ve been doing a single sheer coat, but the polish is buildable if you want more of a blue hue. —Samantha, Assistant Editor
I’ll put it plainly: Green nail polish is typically not my favorite. In fact, I usually steer clear of green makeup because I find it to look a little too cool-toned for my olive-yellow complexion. Gold, though, is one of my favorite makeup and nail colors to rock, so when I saw this pastel green-gold from Essie’s new collection, I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone to try it. The shade is so much more flattering than I anticipated because it contains a very saturated concentration of gold flecks that really warms up the light green color of the polish. Do I think I’d venture to pick up another green polish after this one? Probably not — but that’s fine in my book because I’m happily sold on this one. —Alanna, Associate Editor
I’m a dark nail polish kind of person. I love a deep blue, a forest green or a rich burgundy mani. This soft, iridescent lavender shade is definitely not something that would typically be in my rotation, but it’s so mesmerizing, I had to give it a try. I decided to use it to create some negative space nail art along with one of my favorite Essie shades, After School Boy Blazer, a navy blue. After applying the dark shade and letting it dry completely. I applied pieces of tape in a diagonal direction across several nails. I then applied Sugarplum Fairytale on the exposed parts of the nails. The light glittery shade really popped against the dark blue. After the coats dried, I gently removed the tape and was left with two-toned accent nails that are perfect for the holiday season. —Sarah, Senior Editor
