Beauty Editors Share Their #1 Favorite Makeup Product of 2018
December 14, 2018As beauty editors, we test hundreds of beauty products over the course of a year, including the good, the bad and the really, really amazing. We come across seriously good stuff often (more often than the bad, tbh) but the scary thing is that if we don’t take note of our favorites, they might just slip out of our mind — especially over the course of a whole year. So obviously, with the New Year comes a whole lot of self-reflection, but before we start thinking about the deep stuff, we’d like to focus our attention on our biggest predicament: our one favorite makeup product of 2018.
Below, our editors their their #1 favorite makeup product from 2018 and why.
Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette
I love every Urban Decay Naked Palette, but this year, Cherry really hit the top of my list. I love burgundy, warm, dark cherry and maraschino shades — and this palette brings them all together in a really harmonious way. This collection of shadows can take you from the office to a black tie event and everywhere in between — and it’s also so pretty in its packaging that I could literally stare at it all day anyway. #Sorrynotsorry.
NYX Professional Makeup Mochi Palette in Sleek and Chic
I’ve used this palette just about daily since I brought it home. There are neutral color options for my regular office look and some festive glitters for dressing up — all with a delightfully bouncy, soft texture and plenty of payoff. What’s most amazing is that this baby only costs $20. I’m a bit of a makeup brand snob (helloooo YSL and Armani), but I love this palette just as much as one four times the price.
Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Amazonian
Out of all the makeup products I’ve used in 2018, my favorite product of all was Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink in the brown-red shade named Amazonian from the Unnudes Collection. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I basically wear it every single day. There’s no doubt that it’s my go-to, and I intend on stockpiling this shade until I’m confident that I’m set for life.
As someone with chronically short lashes, I’ve never prioritized mascara in my beauty stash. I’ve always gravitated toward falsies — that is until I met L’Oréal Lash Paradise. She floated across my desk as a brand new launch earlier this year and I’m forever changed. It lengthens my lashes without clumping them together and makes it look like I have thick dark lashes. It’s not the same as my falsies — but is the perfect everyday alternative and is definitely one of my holy grails.
