Monochromatic makeup will always be one of our favorite makeup trends — but combining colors that are distant cousins takes the top spot as our favorite makeup challenge. One of these duos is pink and red, and we turned to NYC-based makeup artist Anne Kohlhagen to help us master the look. Here’s what she came up with. It’s All About the UndertonesAccording to Kohlhagen, mastering this look comes down to choosing the right products. “Some reds are more blue-based, and some are more yellow-based; if you’re going to pick a blue-based pink shadow, a blue-based red lip will pair best,” she says. This means that you want to pair ‘like with like,’ and focus in on the undertones. You can also keep this rule of thumb in mind if you’re going to go vampy with the look, which is what Kohlhagen did here — basing the whole look around the NYX Professional Makeup Liquid Suede in Cherry Skies. And she chose NYX Professional Makeup Hot Singles Eyeshadow in Pink Cloud for the eye because both colors are extremely cool-toned. Keep the Rest of the Face Bare“If you’re going to do a pink eye and a red lip, I wouldn’t do any kind of cheek. I’d make sure everything is very monochromatic but natural,” Kohlhagen notes. This means to keep the color focused on the eye and lip with glowy but neutral skin.Read MoreThe Best Candy Apple Red Makeup5 Ingrown Hair Serums You Need STATHere’s Why We Love The L’Oréal Paris Unbelievabrow
